New Year’S Eve – Discover Winter Sailing Season

How about seeing in the New Year in France?

I’m planning a trip to Cherbourg, France across the English Channel, setting sail in the evening of Friday 30th December from Portsmouth.  Endure the elements and test your sailing gloves on a cross-channel adventure and a day on the Continent as well as seeing in the New Year in France.

Departure evening of 30th December (depending on when folks can make it) from Portsmouth (Haslar Marina in Gosport) and sail through the night to reach Cherbourg by the morning of 31st December.  Spend the day and New Year’s Eve in Cherbourg and set sail again on 1st January (all subject to weather). Expected return to Portsmouth in the morning of 2nd January.

Night sailing is a great experience but does require reasonably good gear at this time of year especially good gloves, hat and waterproofs (which can be hired if needed for £15).  The boat itself has central heating!

No experience is required, but I will need to make sure at least two other people on board are able to watch-keep.

Crew safety is paramount – the boat is fully MCA coded and the skipper a commercially endorsed (and insured) RYA Yachtmaster.

The cost of the three day trip is £75 per person plus share of food and fuel costs.
