Relaxed Weekend Sailing

In brief: Hema and Mike Johns are planning a weekends sailing with the emphasis on having a relaxed social weekend on the water rather than hardcore sailing to build miles. We plan to sail from Haslar Marina (or the Hamble;tbc) to either Lymington or Poole where we will stay on the Saturday night. If the weather/tides are appropriate we will sail via the south of the Isle of Wight on Saturday and return to the charter base via the Solent on Sunday. There will be plenty of chance to practice various sailing skills. Any questions please feel free to message either of us via the LSC Meetup page and we will get back to you.

The boat: Elan Impression 434 yacht (or similar) – 44ft in length, 4 cabins & 2 bathrooms. It’s a comfortable, spacious boat with plenty of mod cons and fully equipped with up-to-date navigation systems including GPS chart plotter and AIS as well as all necessary safety equipment to be compliant with coding for charter. The skipper & organisers: Hema and Mike Johns: Hema holds a Day skipper certificate and Mike a Yachtmaster Offshore certificate. Both are experienced Solent sailors with many miles between them both in the Solent and further afield.

Trip details: This is an all ability trip with a chance to practice various sailing skills including navigation, sail trim and possibly flying spinnakers if the weather allows! The emphasis will be on a fun relaxed weekend and not a shouty experience!! You'll be expected to join in with all of the sailing, rope pulling, tea making, helming, navigating etc. If you don't know how to sail, don't worry plenty there will be plenty of help on hand.

We will meet in Hardys bar at Haslar marina (Gosport) around 7 on the Friday evening for a drink and then go together back to the boat for dinner and a chance to chat and get to know each other. If you need to arrive later its no problem details will be given of where to find/how to access the boat. We will aim to be out on the water around 9.30 each day. Depending on the where exactly we aim to end up in the evening and the route we take, we will either have lunch whilst sailing along or maybe stop somewhere for a short time.

Breakfasts and lunches on-board will be provided and paid for out of the kitty. Please tell us if you're a veggie and make sure to clarify if you're fully veggie, vegan etc. A few drinks on-board will also be included for when we get into harbour but feel free to bring a bottle of your favourite drink if you wish!! We'll be sleeping on the boat/yacht in shared cabins. Full details of what to bring, marina location and travel plans to and from the marina will be sent out nearer the time to those attending.

The cost/payments The total price is £190 for full LSC members to be paid at sign up by bank transfer – non-members of LSC will also have to pay a temporary membership fee of £12. The price includes on-board accommodation in shared double cabins, fuel and mooring fees for the boat and hire of waterproofs if you require them. In addition, you will need to pay your share of the kitty (food and drinks on the yacht) and for your own meals, drinks and other expenses ashore. This event is organized on fair, non-profit and shared cost terms. It will go ahead provided that we have 6 participants (excl. the organisers).

If this event appears to be full, please register on the waiting list as we sometimes have late drop-outs or the possibility to add additional spaces. In the event the trip is cancelled by the organiser (for any reason) a full refund will be available. If you have to drop out of the trip for any reason, a refund will not be possible however the organiser will try and help you sell your place to another LSC member but cannot guarantee this happening.

Small print - In plain English ! Small print to follow, annoying but I have to include it to make you aware of a few things before the trip. Insurance It's our duty as skipper/organiser to recommend that you to take out insurance for personal injury and extreme sports/sailing and I recommend for cancellation encase you're unable to make it for reasons beyond your control. I am not an expert on insurance and so cannot advise on which insurance you should have for sailing trips, but it is my understanding that most holiday insurance policies will cover sailing and that you should be able to check your policy or find suitable policies by searching online. Please research sports/sailing insurance or sailing holiday insurance online. The yacht itself is insured for accidental damage and third party liability, with a maximum excess of £1000. This will be limited to maximum payment of £100 per crew member for this trip (except for gross negligence and tort). Please note cost of damage to sails (including spinnakers) and loss of ropes (or other equipment belonging to the yacht/charter company) will incur separate charges from the charter company which will be shared between the crew and skipper. Important By coming on this trip you accept responsibility for your own actions and accept that sailing can be a dangerous sport which can lead to minor and major injuries and occasionally death. You agree that you and/or family members and friends will not hold the skipper or a fellow crew member liable for any liability as a result of their actions as to the extent that the law allows. This is a shared cost trip and there is no 3rd party organisation involved. This is an occasional non-profit trip and is therefore not covered under the package holidays act.
