Relaxed Solent Sailing Weekend

A relaxing sailing weekend in the Solent, with possible visits to Lymington, Poole or Cowes on the Saturday night before sailing back to Gosport on the Sunday, aiming to arrive back by around 4pm. If the weather and tides are appropriate, we will sail via the south of the Isle of Wight on Saturday and return via the Solent on Sunday. There will be plenty of chance to practice various sailing skills including flying spinnakers. Any questions please feel free to message us via the LSC Meetup page and I will get back to you.

The Yacht
An Elan 434 Impression or similar (4 cabins and all the modern comforts). The yacht is fully equipped with up-to-date navigation systems including chart plotter, autohelm, AIS and radar as well as all necessary safety equipment to be compliant with coding for charter.

The organisers: Stefano Longo (Day Skipper) and Mike Johns (Yachtmaster Offshore) Trip details

This is an all-ability trip with a chance to practice various sailing skills including navigation, sail trim and flying spinnakers if the weather allows. The emphasis will be on a relaxed weekend. You'll be expected to join in with all of the sailing activities, rope pulling, tea making, helming, navigating etc. If you don't know how to sail, don't worry, there will be plenty of help on hand.
We will meet in the bar at Hamble Point Marina (School Lane Hamble, SO314NB) around 7pm on the Friday evening for a drink and then go together back to the boat for dinner and a chance to chat and get to know each other. If you need to arrive later, this is not a problem. Details will be given to all participants of where to find and how to access the boat.
We will aim to be out on the water around 9.30 each day. Depending on where exactly we aim to end up in the evening and the route we take, we will either have lunch whilst sailing along or maybe stop somewhere for a short time.
Breakfasts and lunches on-board will be provided and paid for out of the kitty. Please let us have your dietary requirements. A few drinks on-board will also be included but feel free to bring a bottle of your favourite drink.
We'll be sleeping on the yacht in shared cabins. Full details of what to bring and travel plans to and from the marina will be sent out nearer the time.

£12 to be paid by PayPal via LSC web site - this is the LSC temporary membership fee. £170 bank transfer to the organiser within a week of reserving a space. In addition, you will need to pay your share of the kitty (food and drinks on the yacht, mooring fees and hire of waterproofs if you require them, your own meals, drinks and other expenses ashore). This event is organized on fair, non-profit and shared cost terms. It will go ahead provided that we have at least 7 participants. If this event appears to be full, please register on the waiting list as we sometimes have late drop-outs or the possibility to charter a larger yacht. In the event the trip is cancelled by the organiser (for any reason) a full refund will be available – excluding any bank charges incurred. If you have to drop out of the trip for any reason, a refund will not be possible, however, the organiser will try to sell your place to another LSC member but cannot guarantee this happening.

Disclaimer Annoying but we have to include this to make you aware of a few things before the trip. Insurance - It's our duty as skipper/organisers to recommend that you take out insurance for personal injury and extreme sports or sailing. Also recommended is insurance for cancellation in case you're unable to make it for reasons beyond your control. We’re not experts on insurance and so cannot advise on which insurance you should have for sailing trips, but it is our understanding that most holiday insurance policies will cover sailing and that you should be able to check your policy or find suitable policies by searching online. Please research sports/sailing insurance or sailing holiday insurance online. The yacht itself is insured for accidental damage and third party liability, with a maximum excess of £1000. This will be limited to maximum payment of £100 per crew member for this trip (except for gross negligence and tort). Please note cost of damage to sails (including spinnakers) and loss of ropes (or other equipment belonging to the yacht/charter company) will incur separate charges from the charter company which will be shared between the crew and skipper. Cancellation - If the Event is cancelled by the Event Organiser, you will be refunded in full. All refunds will be net of any bank charges, foreign exchange costs or Paypal deductions. No refund will be given in the event of cancellation by you (incl. reasons outside of your control) and we recommend that you take up a suitable travel insurance (as above) to cover possible cancellation. However, pending confirmation by the Event Host (which should not be unreasonably withheld) you are allowed to transfer your place to another LSC Meetup member once it is fully paid-up. Please note, on trips with shared cabins, it may be necessary to restrict transfer of a place to a person of the same sex. In the absence of fraud or wilful misconduct the Event Host shall in no circumstances be held liable for any amount exceeding the amount of any moneys already paid for the Event by the participant. We also recommend your insurance should cover possible cancellation due to the unlikely event of the charter company going out of business for which the Event organiser will not be liable (as above). Important - By coming on this trip you accept responsibility for your own actions and accept that sailing can be a dangerous sport which can lead to minor and major injuries and occasionally death. You agree that you and/or family members and friends will not hold the skipper or a fellow crew member liable for any liability as a result of their actions as to the extent that the law allows. This is a shared cost trip and there is no 3rd party organisation involved. This is an occasional non-profit trip and is therefore not covered under the package holidays act. YOU AND ACCEPT THAT THE SKIPPER HAS FINAL DECISION ON ACTIVITIES AND THE ITINERARY.
