Cyclades (Greece) ⛵

The Cyclades are the archetypal Greek islands: rugged, baked by fierce sun and surrounded by the crystal clear blue of the Aegean Sea.

We will leave Athens for a circular route through the Northern Cyclades, including the islands of Kea, Kithnos, Siros, Mykonos, Paros, Serifos and Kythnos. The actual itinerary will depend on the wind forecasts as the Meltemi can still blow in early September. Worst case, we will divert to the equally beautiful but more protected islands in the Saronic Gulf (Poros, Hydra, Spetses, etc).

There will be opportunities to skipper passages (for those qualified). I will also consider opening this trip up to additional yachts/skippers.

If you are looking for weather that's a little easier to cope with than the baking heat of July and August but still guarantees sunshine and high temperatures, September is the month to go. The forecast is cloudless days with 12 hours of sunshine, high temperatures reaching almost 30°C and water temperatures the same as in August (25°C, in anchorages sometimes more than 28°C).

This event is open to everyone who enjoys sail cruising and swimming stops in warm water. Although the Meltemi season has ended, the September winds can still build up and cause a reasonable amount of swell. If you have never been sailing in these conditions (similar to those found in English waters), this trip may not be suitable for you

I've reached my 40s now and are looking to go with people of a similar age, e.g. plus/minus 10 years. I love swimming and always try to allocate some time for this. I also like exploring the local tavernas and bars in the evening, but are not a big drinker myself. If your drinking habits tend to either extreme or your evening plans include only you and your book or gadget, you better go on a different trip!

You're expected to be reasonably fit and to fully participate in all aspects of the trip (sailing, preparation of meals, etc). Although we can generally cater for ovo-lacto vegetarians, other dietary requirements or food allergies must be discussed before booking.

I will accept bookings for single berths and double cabins. The price is £300 per person and includes on-board accommodation, outboard engine, insurances, taxes, transit log, cooking gas and final cleaning. A minimum 50% deposit is required to confirm your place, with the full amount due by the end of July. Bank transfers only. If you don't want to bring your own towels and sleeping bag, these can be arranged for €15.

Not included are the running costs of the boat, food, drink, flights and transfers. We will operate a kitty (money box) to pay for fuel, harbour dues, water and all food and drinks on board, sharing these costs equally among the crew. The kitty contribution is usually between €50-100 per person.

Contact me (Jens) either through Meetup or preferably by email ([email protected]). If we haven't sailed before, I will possibly want to arrange a phone call and/or meet you before confirming your place. In any case, include your email and mobile number with your message!

A fully equipped and safety coded, Rob Humphreys designed Elan Impression 434 (13.4m) with 3 double cabins, a twin cabin, two heads and convertible saloon bed. The spacious cockpit features double steering wheels and easy access to the swimming platform.

Please note that particular in Greece, yachts often change on short notice and we may be forced to accept a model similar to the one actually booked.

Our yacht is moored at Lavrion Marina, about 30km from Athens International Airport with frequent budget flights from and to London. A bus connects the marina from either the airport or Athens downtown.

This event is organized on fair, non-profit and shared cost terms. You should have a personal injury insurance suitable for the planned activities. The yacht itself is insured for accidental damage and third party liability, with a Maximum Excess Payment of £40 per crew member (except for gross negligence and tort). Skipper and crew liability insurance is included. Please see the Terms & Conditions for important information about risks, safety, insurance and cancellation policies:
