Sail Croatia!!!

The Plan:

Mike Johns and Stefano Longo (and potentially other LSC skippers - tbc) have chartered 2 luxury yachts for a week in Croatia. We plan a relaxing weeks sailing from Split around the near-by islands, enjoying the beauty of the Croatian coast line, some great food, a few cheeky drinks and the odd beach BBQ on the way!

Route: We will start (and end) the trip from Rogac town on Solta Island visiting other islands including, but definitely not limited to, the beautiful Korcula and Hvar. A typical day will involve a leisurely breakfast and maybe a swim, a few hours sailing to a lunch stop and more swimming, before continuing on our way to our chosen overnight destination for a chilled out dinner and a few drinks and enjoying local hospitality!! We plan to stay in a variety of places including some small quiet bays where we will stay at anchor mixed with some more vibrant lively towns. The route is not fixed and open to all suggestions of places to visit whilst we are there!

Boat: Cyclades 434 luxury yacht or equivalent - comfortable, spacious and fully equipped with all necessary safety equipment and navigational aids . If there is sufficient interest we have an option for larger yachts.

Event Organisers/skippers: Mike Johns and Stefano Longo

Both are experienced sailors - Mike holds a Yachtmaster Offshore certificate (along with current first aid/sea survival certificates and radio licence) and Stefano a Day skipper certificate. If you want to meet up/discuss/chat about holiday please drop one of us an email or message via the Meetup site in the first instance.

Crew: So far we are a group of 9 young professionals 30s-40s in age. We are unlikely to be out clubbing each night but definitely all up for a few drinks, lots of laughs and enjoying plenty of local cuisine each evening wherever we end up staying! The trip is open to all abilities of sailor including complete novices.

Accommodation: Accommodation will be in shared double or twin cabins. Cabins on this yacht are spacious with plenty of storage. If you would like a cabin to yourself, we can only accommodate that if you agree to cover the full charter cost of the other space on the yacht.

Cost: For LSC members the total cost of the yacht charter is £440 per person excluding flights, transfers and boat kitty and is to be paid (by bank transfer) as follows:

£50 to reserve a space - payable at the time of signing up

£170 to confirm your place payable within 7 days of signing up

£220 payable by the 1st April 2017

Note: The yacht charter cost includes basic charter and insurance costs of the yacht, end cleaning, towels, bed linen and cooking gas. Please see the Terms & Conditions for important information about risks, safety, insurance and cancellation policies

Extras: Any accommodation ashore; restaurant/bar bills . Kitty approx. £200; Flight: approx. £250.  PLEASE DO NOT BOOK A FLIGHT UNTIL YOUR PLACE IS CONFIRMED.

Note: The boat kitty will be used to cover all shared food and drinks on-board, mooring fees, diesel, water, local taxes, optional insurance extras, outboard and any other boat associated costs not covered by the initial cost of the trip! It is only an estimate!

Options: Airport collection service including a fast and fun rib ride out the island! (cost to be confirmed). For those arriving in Split a few days early it’s also possible to pick up the rib from Split main town quay. Additionally, there is a ferry service from Split to Solta (Rogac town) that runs 5 times per day, takes about an hour and costs around £5pp. Myself and at least two others are planning on arriving on the Thursday 22nd and staying for a couple of extra days at the end to explore Split itself and the surrounding countryside of Croatia.

Terms and Conditions – Disclaimer

The information below must be read, understood and accepted by all participants:

The Event Description (including any notes) in conjunction with The Terms & Conditions and written acceptance of payment from the Event Host (usually by email) shall constitute a written agreement between you and the Event Host. By responding to this Meetup you acknowledge and agree that the principal purpose of the event is to provide a forum for members of the London Sailing Club Meetup group to engage in social activities including sailing.

The Meetup Event Host is an occasional event host and not a professional organiser (as such term is defined under The Package Travel, Package Holidays and Package Tours Regulations 1992); accordingly this event shall not be construed a ‘package tour’ or ‘package holiday’. The Yacht is chartered directly by the Event Host via a UK based Charter broker. There is no 3rd party organisation involved in running the trip. This sailing trip (the ‘Event’) is organized on fair, non-commercial, shared cost and shared liability terms with the pleasure and safety of all participants in mind.

You recognise that sailing can potentially be a dangerous activity with both minor and substantial risks including, but not limited to, serious head, neck or spinal injuries, injury to bones, joints or muscles, cold shock, drowning and death and you engage in it at your own risk. By voluntarily participating in this Event, you agree to accept any and all inherent risks of personal injury or death. You agree that you and/or family members and friends will not hold the skipper or a fellow crew member liable for any liability as a result of their actions as to the extent that the law allows.

Insurance

All yachts are fully insured (in accordance with the Croatian charter regulations) for accidental damage and third party liability by the Charter Company with a policy excess of 1500 Euro. This will be limited to maximum payment of £50 per crew member for this trip (except for gross negligence and tort) by payment of a damage excess waiver. Please note cost of damage to sails (including spinnakers) and loss of ropes (or other equipment belonging to the yacht/charter company) may incur separate charges from the charter company which will be shared between the crew and skipper. By participating in this event, you agree to accept joint liability towards the Security Deposit of the yacht (this works the same way as the deposit when hiring a car, i.e. the Security deposit is held by the Charter Company and will only be cashed if a claim is made in respect of damage/loss from the yacht). Except for gross negligence or tort, your liability is limited to the Security Deposit. Skipper and crew liability insurance is included and a separate policy excess applies for which you accept joint liability. We recommend your insurance should cover the unlikely event of cancellation of the Event due to the charter company cessing to trade for any reason under which circumstances the Event organiser will not be liable to make any refund of any money already paid to the charter company in respect of the yacht charter costs.

By participating in this Event you agree to take out adequate Personal insurance to cover personal possessions and any activity envisaged in this Event. I am not an expert on insurance and so cannot advise on which insurance you should have for sailing trips, but it is my understanding that most holiday insurance policies will cover sailing and that you should be able to check your policy or find suitable policies by searching online. Your insurance should cover cancellation (including for reasons beyond you control) and must include cover for personal injury and possible repatriation expenses in the event of injury, accident or bad weather. You will be required to sign a Waiver And Liability Release Form prior to departure.

You recognise that the Skippers main concern is the safety of the crew, the yacht(s), other boats and people in the surrounding water and the terms of the Charter Agreement. You agree to behave responsibly and in accordance with all safety instructions given to you. YOU AGREE TO ABIDE BY THE SKIPPERS DESCISION AND ACCEPT THAT THE SKIPPERS DISCSION IS FINAL ON ALL SAILING AND SAFETY RELATED ACTIVITIES ABOARD THE YACHT AND THE ITINERARY/ROUTE SAILED DURING THE CHARTER PERIOD.

Cancellation Policy

If the Event is cancelled by the Event Organiser, you will be refunded in full. All refunds will be net of any bank charges, foreign exchange costs or Paypal deductions. No refund will be given in the event of cancellation by you (incl. reasons outside of your control) and we recommend that you take up a suitable travel insurance (as above) to cover possible cancellation. However, pending confirmation by the Event Host (which should not be unreasonably withheld) you are allowed to transfer your place to another LSC Meetup member once it is fully paid-up. Please note, on trips with shared cabins, it may be necessary to restrict transfer of a place to a person of the same sex. In the absence of fraud or wilful misconduct the Event Host shall in no circumstances be held liable for any amount exceeding the amount of any moneys already paid for the Event by the participant. We also recommend your insurance should cover possible cancellation due to the unlikely event of the charter company going out of business for which the Event organiser will not be liable (as above).
