Flotilla Sailing on the Tourquoise Coast With YOU as the Skipper!

What's the plan?

Over the course of numerous trips that I've undertaken in 2015 several people have told me that they were tempted by the idea of taking a bit more control of their sailing holiday and skippering themselves, but aren't quite sure if they're up to doing it. Flotillas are a well-established way of letting you sail a yacht yourself whilst having someone not too far away who's able to give a hand if you have a problem.

Turkey, and particularly the area around Gocek, is a fairly benign location to try your hand at skippering for the first time. The waters there are not influenced by tides and are generally quite deep, so that navigation is much less demanding than in places like the UK south coast. To boost your confidence further the plan is for the flotilla to be a fairly intimate one with a maximum of three boats (including the lead boat), so it'll be easy for you to seek the lead skipper's assistance if you need it.

Various dates may be available - please contact me for more information.

What's the boat like?

You will have a choice of very well maintained Sun Odyssey yachts - the 39i and the 42i. Everything you need to go sailing is covered including transit log, end cleaning, outboard motor, complimentary welcome pack and flotilla fee, and each boat is very well equipped and has furling genoa and main for ease of handling.

Prices vary slightly depending on the yacht and time period, so get in touch with me for exact pricing if this option interests you.

It's up to you how many people you take with you up to a maximum of 8 including you as the skipper, so if you have a few friends who'd like to join you then you'll have extra hands on board to help with the sailing, and of course the costs can be shared amongst you.

Who should come?

You will need a sailing certificate to take a boat out as skipper. Usually this will be an ICC (International Certificate of Competence) or a Day Skipper Practical certificate as a minimum, but other certificates may be acceptable - just ask if in doubt.

Please remember that although there will be a Flotilla lead skipper present each day, as Skipper you will still have the ultimate responsibility for what happens on your yacht.

Where will we go?

The flotilla will begin in Gocek. Destinations after that will be decided by the flotilla leader in conjunction with the flotilla boat skippers, but include places like Fethiye, Dalyan, Kalkan and Kas. Check out the other attachment that I sent out about Turkey for more information.

Each day will begin with a meeting with the flotilla lead skipper before setting off to discuss navigation and arrival port information, and it will be possible to sail in close company with the lead skipper, or to arrange to meet at a destination if you'd prefer to sail separately.

When is it?

There are several possible dates for flotilla events. Currently planned dates are for trips departing Gocek on Saturdays with 4th June 2016 being the first one scheduled. Other dates are provisionally planned for later in the year but and will go ahead if there is sufficient demand.
