Winter Series: Channel Hopping

Mile building adventure with plenty of hands-on sailing and night hours. We aim for a triangle in the channel with at least one stop on the Channel Islands or French coast (e.g. Alderney, Cherbourg, ...). The exact plan will be decided the evening before the trip, based on weather forecasts, tides and crew.

This event is part of a "Winter Series" organized by Alex and Jens:

06-08/11 Winter Series: Channel Hopping
19-21/02 Winter Series: South Coast Adventure
04-06/03 Winter Series: Round The Island

Weather permitting, we aim to sail a minimum of 120 miles on each event, so why not join us for one or more trip?

ITINERARY

Thursday: Meetup at Port Hamble Marina's "Banana Wharf" for dinner and a drink. Then settle down in the heated yacht for the night.

Friday: 8am morning arrivals and breakfast; 9am safety and crew briefing; 10am setting sails

Saturday: We're probably on the water most of the day :)

Sunday: Return to Port Hamble Marina by 4pm latest, followed by a de-briefing (well, more likely a well-deserved farewell drink in the nearby bar) before heading home.

PAYMENTS

The total price is £135 to be paid as follows: £15 to RSVP via Paypal and a £120 bank transfer within a week. The price includes on-board accommodation in shared double cabins. In addition, you will need to pay your share of the kitty (food and drinks on the yacht, marina fees and fuel) and for your own meals, drinks and other expenses ashore.

This event is organized on fair, non-profit and shared cost terms. It will go ahead provided that we have 6 participants (incl. Skipper). If this event appears to be full, please register on the waiting list as we sometimes have late drop-outs or the possibility to add additional spaces.

MISC NOTES

You're expected to fully participate in all aspects of the trip (sailing incl. night hours, watch keeping, galley). Minimum experience: Competent Crew with 50 logged NM in English waters. Ideally: Day Skipper Theory or full Day Skipper certificate.

The yacht is a recently build, fully equipped, safety coded and heated Beneteau Oceanis 37 (or similar). As we'll be sailing her in most weather conditions, you will need several layers of warm clothes (e.g. woolly underwear, 1-2 mid-layers of fleece or similar non-cotton materials and a good waterproof outer layer), head wear, gloves, thick socks and rubber boots. Quality waterproofs and rubber boots hire can be arranged in advance for an additional fee. Safety vest, harness and tether will be supplied.

Although we can generally cater for ovo-lacto vegetarians, other dietary requirements must be discussed with the event host before booking.
