Med Flotilla Week 2016 - Skippers' Meeting

Skippers wanted for our club flotilla in May/June 2016!

If you hold a skipper ticket and fancy joining us for a fun flotilla week in the Mediterranean - even if you feel a bit rusty or not confident enough or are simply lacking the crew to charter on your own - then this event is for you!

Please don't RSVP here if you would like to crew only. We will announce a dedicated event once we have confirmed skippers, location and dates.

LSC has been quite successful in introducing many newbies to sailing, but making the progression to skippering a yacht seems a much bigger hurdle. To help with this, we'll be organizing a club flotilla to sail in a larger fleet, meeting regular for lunch stops and overnight moorings. Exact dates and locations for the trip will be discussed once we have a significant number of skippers to go ahead.

You, as a skipper or co-skipper, will be responsible for all aspects of your boat and can decide about crew, provisions, etc. Those who feel less confident can use this event to buddy-up with another skipper or meet potential crew on our forthcoming socials.

Our role is to help with arranging the charter, e.g. finding the crew, providing insurance through the club, negotiating discounts with the operator, collecting payments, organizing a flotilla prep weekend, etc. We will also run a 'mothership' during the trip and prepare the itinerary.

Minimum requirement is RYA Day Skipper, ICC or equivalent. If you haven't been skippering recently, we will expect you to complete a refresher, boat handling or flotilla prep course before the trip. A VHF short range certificate is strongly recommended as there needs to be one certfied radio operator per boat.
