Solent Sailing Weekend - Watching the Round the Island Race

The Round the Island Race is one of the most spectacular regattas in the world and a must in every sailors logbook. The race regularly attracts over 1,700 boats and around 16,000 sailors, making it one of the largest yacht races in the world and the fourth largest participation sporting event in the UK after the London Marathon and the Great North and South Runs.

We will not race but watch this awesome event from our boat and sail a good part of the course watching the action.

Friday 26/06:

We either meet in London at the train station around 18:00 or at the boat at ca 19:00. After a safety briefing will settle down for dinner on the boat so that the crew can get to know each other and agree and discuss the next two days sailing then sleep on the boat.

Saturday 27/06:
We will rise early and watch the Round the Island Race, sailing, but not racing a good part of the course and stay overnight in one of the marinas.

Sunday 28/06: Another day of sailing in the hopefully sunny Solent. We will have returned the boat by ca. 16:00.

Our Boat:
The yacht is a 37 foot Bavaria with MCA safety coding for 8 people. We will be up to 8 people on board and everyone will get involved in every part of sailing – no prior experience necessary.

What’s included?
The cost of £180/person includes the charter, insurance, all food and drink aboard the yacht, if we are less than 8 people on board there may be a small charge for diesel and mooring. What is not included?
Transport from and to the yacht and a security deposit of £80 per person, which will be returned if there is no damage or similar – (see below). If you want, foul weather gear is available for rent from the charter company at £7.50/day. Personal insurance is recommended but not included.

Terms and conditions:
Please read carefully. By joining this trip you accept that the Skipper has the final decision on activities and the itinerary, with safety of crew and the yacht in mind. This means that depending on wind and weather the trip may have to be changed or cancelled. If the trip is cancelled you will receive a refund, if the trip is changed you will not.
This is a shared costs venture, so there is no commercial liability or public liability on the part of the Skipper or on the part of any crew member. You take part at your own risk and if you wish to have insurance cover it is your own responsibility to arrange it. By joining this trip you accept shared responsibility for the yacht, and you will need to provide a damage deposit of £80 in cash on the day. Please don't let this put you off, as the damage deposit will not be touched except in the unlikely event that we damage the yacht or its fittings. Any damage cost charged will be equally shared amongst the trip attendees regardless of the cause.

The Meetup ® event host is an occasional event-host and not a professional organiser (as such term is defined under The Package Travel, Package Holidays and Package Tours Regulations 1992); accordingly this event shall not be construed as a “package tour” or "package holiday".

The weekend will go ahead provided that we have a minimum of 7 paid up crew. If it has to be cancelled due to insufficient people or cancellation by the charter company you will be refunded in full for all monies paid. This trip is also advertised on other sailing meetup groups, so some crew members may be from those.
