America's Cup World Series Racing Trip

A chance to watch the British stage of the America's Cup World Series during a three day sailing trip. The practice and races take place off Southsea in the Solent, and the Ben Ainslie Racing team will be flying the flag for Britain against the other America's Cup competitors.

The plan is to meetup on Thursday evening at Gosport Marina, Portsmouth and then on Friday sail down Southampton Water and out into the Solent to watch the practice event, taking place just outside Portsmouth Harbour. We will overnight in Portsmouth or Cowes marina, after a meal ashore.

On Saturday we will sail into the Solent, watch some of the America's Cup racing, and return to Portsmouth for our overnight.

On Sunday we will journey out to the Beaulieu river entrance where we will turn to go up the Beaulieu river a little and stop for some lunch. We may choose to watch the Sunday racing. We'll then return to Portsmouth late afternoon.

Practicalities

The two yachts are Bavaria 38 footers with MCA safety coding and safety equipment for 8 persons. Accommodation on the yacht is shared double cabins. You should bring a sleeping bag, and a pillow case and pillow if you want one.

For those with experience who want to practice their sail trimming or navigation skills the opportunity will be available. There'll be a maximum 7 people on board including the Skipper, so there'll be plenty of opportunity for everyone to participate in the sailing.

Itinerary

Thursday. 7.30pm meet at the yacht, stow luggage and provisions, then go for an evening meal in a local pub nearby. Overnight on the yacht.

Friday. Sailing in the Solent, watch America's Cup practices off Portsmouth, and then overnight on the yacht in Gosport or Cowes.

Saturday. Sailing in the Solent, watch America's Cup races off Portsmouth, and overnight on the yacht in Gosport marina.

Sunday. Sailing in the Solent and East to the Beaulieu river. At around 5pm we will be back at Gosport marina.

Cost

The price of the sailing weekend is £275 for the 3 days of sailing and 3 nights on board. The price reflects the fact that the number on board is limited to 7 people. The price excludes some costs relating to marinas, food and drinks on board. These will be payable on board and will amount to approx £30 each.

You will need to supply a £250 Damage Deposit cheque/payment when booking for the trip, and you pay for your own evening meals and drinks ashore.

Full payment will be needed by 30 May 2015. A £140 initial deposit (non-refundable unless you sell your place) secures your place until then.

Upfront and Open notes

By joining this trip you accept that the Skipper has the final decision on activities and the itinerary, with safety of crew and the yacht in mind.

This is a shared costs venture, so there is no commercial liability or public liability on the part of myself as Skipper or on the part of any crew member. You take part at your own risk and if you wish to have insurance cover it is your own responsibility to arrange it.

By joining this trip you accept shared responsibility for the yacht, and you will need to provide a damage deposit of £250 by cheque or bank payment. Please don't let this put you off, as the damage deposit will not be touched except in the unlikely event that we damage the yacht or its fittings. Any damage cost charged will be equally shared amongst the trip attendees regardless of the cause.

The Meetup ® event host is an occasional event-host and not a professional organiser (as such term is defined under The Package Travel, Package Holidays and Package Tours Regulations 1992); accordingly this event shall not be construed as a “package tour” or "package holiday".

Some members of the crew may be from other sailing meetup groups.

The weekend will go ahead provided that we have a minimum of 6 crew per boat. If it has to be cancelled due to insufficient people or cancellation by the charter company you will be refunded in full for all monies paid.
