Sailing Advanced Exercises

The plan is to spend a week practising advanced seamanship and navigation. We'll aim to develop strategies for refloating after going aground, dealing with equipment failures such as to rigging and engine, preventing water ingress after damage and other similar matters. We'll also be working on preparation for heavy weather sailing, use of two anchors, towing, and challenging night time pilotage, and we'll be having a go at sailing in confined areas, maximising performance from sail trim, and practising navigational techniques, amongst other things.

The boat we'll use is a fully MCA coded Beneteau Oceanis 37. It is a very recent boat in tip top condition, and unlike many other charter companies the one supplying our boat includes cleaning at the end, so instead of spending a couple of hours scrubbing it down you can just grab your gear and leave at the end of the trip. The boat also has full diesel central heating. Quality wet weather gear can be hired from the charter company for a reasonable fee too if you need it.

Anyone is welcome to attend but this might be especially valuable for people who are around the competent crew up to day skipper level. On this trip you would be mainly acting as crew but would have the opportunity over just a few days to observe a broad range of techniques that would be useful to you as you progress your sailing abilities. You will also have the chance to learn and try your hand at some very useful skills such as how to safely manoeuvre around confined spaces under power.

If you RSVP yes for this trip please contact me soon afterwards to let me have your payment and your contact details. Please note that this is a midweek trip, and we will meet at the boat on the Sunday evening and continue until late afternoon on the Friday.

Feel free to call me on 07711-528477 if you'd like to discuss anything (Steve)

How much does it cost?

The cost of this trip is just £150. The costs of marinas, food and fuel are split between everyone on board. It isn't possible to predict them exactly but they don't usually become prohibitive.
