Sailing Round Trip - Port Hamble to Poole Harbour

A long weekend of sailing, from Friday night to Monday afternoon.

The plan is to go from Port Hamble, out of the Solent past the Needles and, weather permitting, later round Old Harry Rocks near Swanage to end up at Weymouth. The return trip will call at Poole Harbour.

This trip is open to all those who are comfortable sailing in UK waters at this time of the year. You need to be prepared for whatever the weather may throw at us. This trip will involve some long passages and some night sailing in order to make the distance to Weymouth. This will provide useful sea miles and night hours in your log book.  For those with experience who want to practice their sail trimming or navigation skills the opportunity will be available.

The yacht will be an Oceanis 37 footer with MCA safety coding and safety equipment for 8 persons. It has on-board central heating.

Accommodation on the yacht is shared double cabins or a saloon berth. You should bring a sleeping bag, and a pillow case and pillow if you want one.

There will be a maximum of 7 people on board including myself as Skipper, so that there is opportunity for everyone to participate in the sailing.

Itinerary

Friday. 7.30pm meet at the yacht, stow luggage and provisions, then go for an evening meal in a local pub nearby. Possible night time departure.

Saturday. Sailing until we reach Weymouth.

Sunday. Some free time in Weymouth, or we may sail to Lulworth Cove or Swanage. Sail East to Poole Harbour.

Monday. Return sailing trip to Port  Hamble. At around 4.30pm we will be back at Port Hamble to refuel and then hand over the yacht.

Exact route and timings depends on tides, winds and weather of course.

Cost

The price of the sailing weekend is £150 inclusive for 7 crew in total. The price includes ALL costs relating to the yacht and marinas, together with breakfasts, lunches, snacks and drinks on board. There are no additional charges after the event.

Full payment will be needed by 2 January 2015. A £90 initial deposit secures your place until then.

Upfront and Open notes

By joining this trip you accept that the Skipper has the final decision on activities and the itinerary, with safety of crew and the yacht in mind.

This is a shared costs venture, so there is no commercial liability or public liability on the part of myself as Skipper or on the part of any crew member. You take part at your own risk and accept that you will insure yourself appropriately if you wish to have insurance cover.

The Meetup ® event host is an occasional event-host and not a professional organiser (as such term is defined under The Package Travel, Package Holidays and Package Tours Regulations 1992); accordingly this event shall not be construed as a “package tour” or "package holiday".

By joining this trip you accept shared responsibility for the yacht, and you will need to provide a £200 damage deposit cheque. Please don't let this put you off, as the cheque will not be cashed except in the unlikely event that we seriously damage the yacht. So far these cheques have never been cashed on my trips and  the expectation of course is for the same this time too.

The weekend will go ahead provided that there are minimum 6 crew. If it has to be cancelled due to insufficient people or cancellation by the charter company you will be refunded in full for all monies paid.

This trip is also advertised on City Sailing Club meetup group, so some crew members will be from there.
