Sailing Weekend Past the Isle of Wight to Poole Harbour and Back

A full weekend of sailing, with some leisure relaxation thrown in.

This weekend is open to all, regardless of experience level. Everyone will have the opportunity to take part, whether helming, sail setting or simply making tea at sea! For those with more experience who want to practice their sail trimming or navigation skills that's fine too.

The plan is to go from Portsmouth round the Isle of Wight on one side to get to Poole, and then past the Isle of Wight the other side the next day to get back to Portsmouth.

The yacht will be a Bavaria 38 or similar, depending on availability at time of charter. There will be a maximum of 6 people including myself as Skipper, so there is more opportunity for everyone to participate in the sailing.

Itinerary

Friday 7.30pm Meet at the yacht, then go for an evening meal in the local pub. Night on board the yacht.

Saturday. Probably an early start to take advantage of these long summer days. We'll either sail through the Solent or around the South side of the Isle of Wight depending on the wind and tide conditions. Either way we will pass the Needles and head West towards Bournemouth and Poole.

Having passed Bournemouth, we'll cruise into the beautiful Poole Harbour and around Brownsea Island to the marina. Our evening meal will be in a pub or restaurant near the marina.

Sunday. On the return trip from Poole we will if possible go round the Isle of Wight on the opposite side (North or South) to our outwards journey. At 4pm we will back at Portsmouth to refuel and tidy up the yacht for a 5pm yacht handover.

Cost

The price of the sailing weekend is £210. This price includes ALL costs relating to the yacht and marinas, together with breakfasts, lunches, snacks and drinks on board. There are no additional charges after the event. You will need to pay for your own two evening meals and drinks on the Friday and Saturday.

Full payment is needed by 15 July. A £90 initial deposit secures your place until then.

Upfront and Open notes

By joining this trip you accept that the Skipper has final decision on activities and the itinerary, with safety of crew and the yacht in mind.

This is a shared costs venture, so there is no commercial liability or public liability on the part of myself as Skipper or on the part of any crew member.

Accommodation on the yacht is shared double cabins. You will need to bring a sleeping bag and a pillow case. There are some pillows and cushions that can be used as pillows on board.

By joining this trip you accept joint responsibility for the yacht, and you will be asked for a £250 damage deposit cheque. Please don't let this put you off, as the cheque will not be cashed except in the unlikely event that we damage the yacht and the charter company requires some payment taken from the damage deposit that I'm paying them. So far these cheques have never been cashed by me and  the expectation is that all will be fine.

The weekend will go ahead provided that there is a minimum of 6 attendees. If it has to be cancelled due to insufficient people or cancellation by the yacht charter company you will be refunded in full for all monies paid.
