Boating on the Canal Du Midi

This is a boating holiday on one of the world’s wonders, the picturesque Canal du Midi, from 19th April for 7 days. An excellent way to enjoy the countryside of southern France.

The canal bridges and locks are a marvel of engineering. It was the 17th century’s biggest construction engineering project.  Navigating the locks and exploring ashore will be an adventure.

This is a good time to travel: not excessively busy or hot. Note that this trip starts during Easter weekend.

We will pick up the 6-berth motor boat, at Castelnaudary in the afternoon and sail it 157 km through 62 locks to Port Cassafières. (Locks are electrically operated). The boat has two showers & toilets and accommodates 6 guests in 2 cabins and a saloon.

Ryanair flies Stansted (STN) to Carcassonne (CCF). A 15 min bus ride (€5) or 10 min Taxi ride (€10 - €12) and a 20-min train ride will get you to Castelnaudary.

One can also fly Gatwick to Toulouse and take a 40 to 50-min train ride from there to Castelnaudary.

Coming back, Ryanair flies Beziers (BZR) to London Luton (LTN) on the 26th April. One can also take a train back to Toulouse and EasyJet to Gatwick.

Costs are: one sixth of the boat hire £111 per person, one sixth of the fuel cost £ 50 per person and damage insurance £20 per person. So just £26 per day for a berth on a boat in the south of France! Once these costs are paid by the guest, then I guarantee no further operating costs, regardless of the number of guests.

Flights & transfers, food & drink extra.

I need the boat operating costs (£181) to confirm your place on the trip and guarantee no additional costs. Food and drink will be paid at the time.
