Festive Weekend Sail in the Solent

For the festive season, we're running another fantastic sailing trip in the Solent. For those you have sailed with us before, you'll know what great fun these events are. If you've not been on one of our trips, then now is your chance to discover what you've been missing out on!

It's often noted that some of the most beautiful sailing can be experienced around Christmas time, and while it maybe a little cooler this time of year, our modern Yacht is fully heated, extremely comfortable and very well equipped.

As will all our trips, the pace will be relaxed and the atmosphere friendly and welcoming. There is likely to be a range of abilities from seasoned sailors to complete novices. If you have never sailed before this is a great opportunity to get out on a yacht. The skipper will be able to walk you through all the different aspects of the boat, including; navigation and chart work, how tie a variety of knots, steering under power and sailing on all points of sail.

Our skipper is Nick Ager who is highly experienced round the world sailor and holds an RYA Yachtmaster Ocean certificate. During his circumnavigation he kept a blog which is an excellent and inspirational read - Nick's blog

Where do we sleep?
Yachts typically consist of four rooms, three of these rooms are actual cabins and the fourth is the main saloon which usually provides a single and double berth.

This is a sample itinerary which obviously subject to the weather and the desires of the crew.

On Friday we'll meet on the terrace in the Sloe bar in Waterloo Station at 5:30pm or for those not taking the train, in Southampton anytime after 7pm. We'll then join the skipper onboard, drop off our bags before going to a local eatery for dinner and drinks.

Saturday morning starts with breakfast aboard and a full safety briefing. After which we set sail to enjoy some leisurely cruising around the Solent, anchoring up for lunch somewhere pretty before sailing over to Cowes and up the Medina river to a marina. In the evening we'll be disembark to one of the superb restaurants Cowes has to offer and perhaps catch some live music before heading back to the boat for the night.

After breakfast, we'll set off for some more cruising around the Solent, lunch aboard with the aim to be back in Southampton around 4pm.

The cost is £150 per person which includes on-boat accommodation, breakfast, lunch and snacks aboard. You will be contacted for payment so please be quick to secure your place.

We will travel by train from Waterloo on Friday at around 6pm, of course you can take later trains if you wish. We do however try to purchase GroupSave tickets whenever possible which allows four to travel for the price of two.

Please bring along a treat, this could be your favourite cake or even some home cooking, preferably something festive!

What to bring

A sailing suit which is a Weatherproof Jacket and Salopettes, but for those of you that don't have your own, these can be hired from the charter company for a nominal charge, usually around £10 for the weekend.

All must be packed in a soft holdall, please don't bring suitcases as there is nowhere to stow them aboard.
