The Great Spring Solent Treasure Hunt

Dear LSC, I would like to get a LSC boat together to participate in the Great Spring Solent Treasure Hunt. This is a tried and tested fabulous format for a weekend of competitive sailing, suitable to all levels of experience.

7 - 9 spaces available - first come first serve

The Treasure Hunt has been a hugely successful event in my old sailing club and this year we are looking to get other London based sailing clubs involved. In short the weekend will be structured as follows:
Friday: Arrival in The Hamble on Friday evening (easy to get to from London Waterloo by train); most people will get there for about 7:30/8pm, but it will still be ok if you arrive later than that. Meet up for dinner with the other crews in a local restaurant
Saturday: Training and familiarisation with the boat on Saturday morning; Meet up at a pre agreed sailing mark in the afternoon (start line); A selected number of sailing buoys in the Solent have been assigned points and each boat decides on its own strategy on how to collect these points ie on the order of marks it sails to taking wind and tide into account. An added twist is the penalty for late finishing. There are extra points that can be collected for switching the helm and involving the whole crew, which ensures that all participants are involved. Those who would like to put their navigation skills into practice can do so by deciding on the strategy, those who have never sailed before will have the opportunity to get a taste of sailing and get involved right from the start.
Finish around 5pm and meet up in Cowes where we will organise a BBQ at the Royal Corinthian Yacht Club for all the crews and hold a prize giving.

Sunday: Crews have breakfast in Cowes (not included), departure around 10 am ; Depending on the conditions a few short races or a relaxed sail back to the Hamble; finish around 4-5pm

The boats would be Beneteau First 40.7s with a professional skipper on each boat.

The price for each participant will be between £280 for 9 participants or £340 for 7 participants - THIS INCLUDES: the charter boat, a professional skipper, food and drinks on board, diesel, safety gear, foul weather gear as well as the Saturday BBQ at the RCYC. Extras are travel costs, breakfast in Cowes and meals ashore.

The boats are allowed to sleep a maximum of 8 people (7+skipper), but can easily take more people on board, though any extra people would have to book accommodation ashore.

Please RSVP if you are interested. Those who book will have to pay a deposit by the end of February

We can also organise 'team shirts' at £15 per person, but that can be decided by the crew and is obviously not obligatory

Best Regards

Kirsten
